Kate is an Assistant Professor in the Environmental Studies and Sciences Program at Rhodes. The overarching goal of her work, both in the Aral Sea region of Uzbekistan and in Memphis, is to see beyond catastrophe. Kate, along with Kim, is a founding facilitator of DEDA, and uses her stage management experience to coordinate the work of our many amazing team members and to obtain resources for our work. A human-environment geographer, Kate loves maps of all kinds and in her classes regularly emphasizes the power of maps to tell stories. Outside of work, Kate loves hiking, gardening, and adventures with her family. 

Erika is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Rhodes College. She supports the data analytics and visualization work of the DEDA lab. At Rhodes, she teaches courses in the Calculus sequence, Proof-writing, and Data Visualization. She also conducts research on student thinking related to graphical representations. In her spare time, Erika enjoys cooking, reading, and spending time with her two young daughters.

Olivia is a senior Environmental Science and Spanish double major at Rhodes college. As part of the DEDA lab, she assists with website and initiative planning and the visual and artistic elements. While at Rhodes, in addition to the DEDA lab, she interns with Overton Park Conservancy, holds leadership for the gardening club, is a fellow with the Memphis Cartonera, and will occasionally be found climbing the campus trees. She has most recently been obsessed with jazz vinyl mixes on Youtube!

Wyatt is a senior Data Analytics major at Rhodes College. He specializes in preparing large datasets for use in visualizations and research. As part of DEDA, he supports the organization’s frontend by obtaining and validating environmental data from external APIs and building workflows for other members. Professionally, he worked on the Cloud Solutions team at Hilton and worked with the Data Science team at FedEx. He also loves playing the piano and cello, and he has been far too fond of otters for as long as he can remember.


Mallory is a junior Data Analytics Major with an Environmental Studies minor at Rhodes College. As a member of the DEDA lab, she assists with the data handling and the creation of visualizations along with website creation. In addition to DEDA, she conducts research on GAN networks, is on the Rhodes Women’s Soccer team, and, in her free time, plays golf and tennis. She has recently been obsessed with yacht rock and the radio.

Jayden is a sophomore Environmental Sciences, Anthropology/Sociology, and Urban Studies triple major at Rhodes college. In DEDA, he researched data of chemicals from specific factories in South Memphis and is now documenting the history of environmental justice movements in Memphis by creating timelines for educational purposes. At Rhodes, Jayden is a Bonner Scholar, National Civil Rights Museum intern, Kinney Service Org treasurer, ACCESS Mentorship program secretary, and lab member in both the chemistry and biology departments. Jayden is also known for touching grass. Fun fact: Jayden is pursuing archeology as a career.

Anthony is a freshman, majoring in Chemistry at Rhodes College. As a part of the DEDA lab, he researches how the City of Memphis’ budget is used and distributed. At Rhodes College, he likes to support the organizations such as A.S.I.A. and the improv group CUP. He also enjoys playing with the volleyball club. He has most recently been obsessed with socializing with new people spontaneously and getting outside of his dorm. He has been trying to sort his 1000+ Spotify playlist to no avail.

Hamnah is a Biochemistry major with a Mathematics minor at Rhodes (Class of 2029). She joined the DEDA lab as a Housing and Community Development fellow, where she explores and researches the public health and environmental impacts of AI data center expansion, with a particular focus on air and water quality in Memphis communities. As a Bonner Scholar, she also serves as an Education and Outreach Intern at the Metal Museum. In her free time, she’s teaching herself how to play piano and is currently obsessed with the quesadillas at the Rhodes dining hall.
